Build a story. Build your vocabulary.

A screen-free card game where every hand gives you a new story to tell.

How EsoStory Plays Out:

Each student draws 3 vocabulary cards from any of the three difficulty piles. This is to encourage players of all skill levels to play together.

Having two words on each card gives players more creative freedom to choose the word more appropriate to their use.

The game starts when players collectively agree to either flip over a Sentence Starter card or come up with an idea of their own.

Step 1: Draw your Hand

Step 2: Build the Story

Players take turns adding up to 7 words to the story—these words may be from the card hand, but they don’t have to. Players have innovative control over which words they want to use.

If a player chooses to use a word from their card hand, then they have to draw a new card after discarding the old one.

Step 3: Keep the Story Moving

Players work together by adding their own words to the game, creating a story unique to the group. The game ends when one player reaches 20 points or when there are no more new vocabulary cards to draw.

Step 4: Learn through play

EsoStory provides a fun and engaging way for students to learn vocabulary offline, as well as exercising their creative thinking skills, problem solving skills, and communication skills.

Through gameplay, players learn how to use new vocabulary words in new ways, along with figuring out how to collaborate and build a story unique to them.
